Some other ideas for seed starting: Cardboard toliet paper rolls. of course these have no bottoms but if you pack them into a nursery flat that will hold in the soil. I moisten my seed starting mix before I pack it in as well, you loose less out the bottoms. These can be planted directly, no need to remove the tube when planting out, they will decompose in time to not inhibit root development.
egg shell halves are another option which additionally add minerals to your soil.
Waxed paper milk or juice cartons (not the foil lined tetrapaks), cut down and drainage holes punctured in the bottom, are great for plants like tomatoes where you will grow them out larger before they get transplanted. I've used them for squash seedlings as well, being careful to plant out the squash before the roots are inhibited by the container size. Squash doesn't really like their roots disturbed and getting pot-bound will inhibit the ultimate size of the plant.
I love starting seeds! It's a powerful way to celebrate potential and possibility.

I believe it was Liz who was at the Crispina Christmas Fair. I bought an adorable star necklace and a star pin.... made from leather with the crystal center. I can't tell you how many compliments I have received...so thanks, Liz!
